Olympic games were started in 776 BC on Mount Olympics in the honour of Greek God Zeus.
They were stopped by a royal order of the Roman Emperor Theodosius in AD 394.
The Modern Olympic Games were started in Athens the Capital of Greece on 6th April,1895 with great afforts made by French nobleman,Baron Pierre de Couberth.
Separate Winter Olympic Games began in 1924.

Olympic Flame
The Olympic Flame symbolises the continuity between ancient and modern games.
It was at the Amsterdam Games in 1928 that for the first time an Olympic flame was ceremonially lighted and burn in a giant torch at the entrance of the stadium.The modern version of the flame was adopted in 1936 at the Berlin Games.
Commonwealth Games
The Commonwealth Games are a festival of sports of the Commonwealth countries.
The first Commonwealth Games were held in 1930 in Hamilton,Canada.
Since 1930,the Games have been conducted every four years except for 1942 and 1946.
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is the organisation which is responsible for the direction and control of the Commonwealth Games.
There are currently 54 members of the Commonwealth of Nations , and 71 team participated in the Games.

The Asian Games,also called the Asiad,are a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia.
The Games are regulated by the Olympic Council od Asia(OCA),under the supervision of the International Olympic Committee(IOC)
The first Asian Games were held in 1951 in New Selhi,India.The 2010 Asian Games were held in Guangzho,China.2014 Asian Games will be held in Incheon,South Korea
South Asian Federation(SAF) Games
Like the Commonwealth Games The South Asian Federation (SAF) Games is a sports festival of South Asian Countries.
The South Asian Sports Federation was formed in New Delhi on November 26,1982.
The first South Asian Federation Games were held at Kathmandu(Nepal)in 1984.
The eight participating countries are India,Pakistan,Sri Lanka,Bangladesh,Nepal,Bhutan,Afghanistan and Maldives.The Games from a part of the SAARC programme
The motto of SAF Games is Peace,Prosperity and Progress.
No SAF Games were staged in 1986 as it was the year of Commonwealth and Asian Games.
The SAF Games have been rechristened South Asian Games on April 2 ,2004.Afghanistan joined the Games in 2006.

The first Cricket world cup was organised in England in 1975.A separate women's Cricket world cup has been held every four years since 1975.
The Cricket world cup tournament is organised by the International Cricket Council(ICC).The ICC was founded in 1909 and its headquarter is located in Dubai,United Arab Emirates.
In 1877 the first Cricket Test match was played in Melbourn between England and Australia.
The first One-Day International Cricket match was played in the year of 1971 between England and Australiain Melbourne.
